Talisman Thief

First mini after toads chosen by drawing random card from character deck was thief.

Trying to paint this mini with colours shown on illustration was really annoying. I had to repaint the shirt 5 times because it ended up looking too pink, and I wanted it to look washed up dirty red.

Sculpting of it also is sub par, it shows that sculptor sometimes would go "fuck it, don't care". On thief that spots are his hands and bandages on legs. He is missing one thumb on hand holding pouch. Maybe it's hidden narrative of this character and he lost it for crimes he committed?  Who knows.

Talisman Toads

For the December I have decided that I have to finally do it. Postponed many times, but now I feel that the stars are right. Therefore I declare month of December as "Month of Talisman"!

Would you kindly click for dramatic tension:

Indeed. First of all I decided to do paint something from the box that I thought would be mundane and boring, the toads.

Soundtrack for rest of this post :D:

And now the pictures:

Really fun to paint, especially after Urban War Rotarius which had details on details and hard to access faces. While researching how other people painted theirs I saw that many paint them realistically and all in the same colour. I find it boring and unpractical. Sure, they have different bases shape, but on board it will be easier to spot which one is your if they have more colour variation. It was also more fun to me. They are only minis which I didn't rebase. Cutting them of the original base would be to fiddly and sizes and different shapes are nice, also not so claustrophobic as in remaining minis.

Urban War Secutors

This ones where fun, I especially like their helmets which are historical gladiator helmets bashed with Sci-Fi, really nice. I presume that people that made Urban War had obsession with Ancient Rome, which shows with the whole Junkers ascetic and this subfaction of Gladiators, unit names, using word xyston for the swords etc.

And one final photo with all shield visible:

One with smiley on it is of course my favourite :D.

Urban War Amazonia Decurions

At first I thought that they are separate units. Quick glance into the rulebook revealed that they just two variants.

Amazonia Decurion with sword:

Amazonia Decurion with guns:

With sword variant I have same problem as with Retiarius. One with guns is my personal favourite. Only gripe I have with it is that from profile it kind of resembles one pose of some deceased pop star, but which one could that be...

Hmm. I tried but couldn't fix that. Regardless it's cool mini

Urban War Retiarius

Next type of units I have recently painted for my Gladiators are Retiarius.

Those ones drove me mad during assembly and painting. First impressions was "yesssss, awesome!". But then cleaning them up it became apparent how fragile arms are, and those bendy spears, grrr. While painting faces I just gave up, thanks to their helmets it's really annoying to paint in that area. So I just went with route "fuck that noise, they will have heavy mascara on eyes, and whites of the eyes on that distance would hardly be visible in real life". It fits with how they are armoured, as I choose to paint them as shown in promotional photos with underboobs. It's silly, but whatever. In my book equation style > realism rules above everything else :D.

Urban War Myrmillos

Hello there!

For start, suitable music for what is coming next :D.

Recently I painted some miniatures for the game Urban War, specifically for Gladiators faction. To not batch every single miniature and dump it in single post I will group them in types. As the title of this post suggest, first are Myrmillos.

These were fun to paint, they are my favourites from those which I have painted for this faction. Unfortunately I batch painted them with the rest of miniatures for Gladiators that I have, and the fatigue kicked in. So I didn't finished them with all things that I had planed for them, like additional weathering etc., but oh well. At least I'm done with them :D.
